Why is GlenDronach 21 called Parliament?
A group of rooks is called a parliament, and a colony of them has nested in the trees overlooking the GlenDronach distillery for close to two hundred years. The expression is named after the birds rather than after anything governmental. It was introduced in 2011 as the oldest whisky in the distillery's core range.
What sherry casks is GlenDronach Parliament 21 matured in?
Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Spain, for a minimum of twenty-one years. GlenDronach matures in sherry wood rather than finishing in it, so the character builds across the whole maturation. The distillery's Aged 30 uses those same two styles and adds Amontillado — a first for the house — so the two expressions are not the same recipe at different lengths.
Is GlenDronach Parliament 21 non chill filtered?
GlenDronach publishes the Parliament 21 as non chill filtered and natural in colour. It is bottled at 48% ABV, a strength that carries the oils and weight chill filtration strips out, which is why the house sells its aged sherry malts above the usual forty-percent floor.
