The Macallan Distil Your World New York is the second edition of the Distil Your World series, created by Whisky Maker Polly Logan with the Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca. It combines six European and American oak casks, bottled at 49.5% ABV (99 proof) in an edition of 1,000 bottles, and was launched in April 2022.

The Elemental Distinction

The second edition of the series: New York followed London and took Distil Your World across the Atlantic for the first time.

A new whisky maker: Polly Logan created this edition with the Roca brothers, travelling to the city with Joan Roca to gather its flavours.

Two oaks in one recipe: Six casks of European and American oak, where the London Edition had used European oak alone.

Built on the apple: The recipe starts from the subtle apple note already present in The Macallan, which leads the aroma as "big apple".

An edition of 1,000 bottles: Half the London outturn, launched at $4,200 for the 70cl bottle and $4,500 for the 75cl.

Polly Logan & the Roca Brothers

Art, Food and the Street

Logan and Joan Roca spent their time in New York with figures from its artistic life: the jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, the graffiti artist Lady Pink, the Guggenheim curator Megan Fontanella, the fashion designer Daniel Silverstein and the sneaker-culture historian Dee Wells. Alongside the whisky, the Roca brothers created a menu of dishes inspired by the city. The documentary of the project premiered at a private event in New York on 13 April 2022 before its release on YouTube. The edition sits with the rest of the single malt Scotch collection this Distil Your World New York belongs to.

Aroma: Big apple with peanut brittle and milk chocolate; a sweet and salty mix like rising dough, with a wisp of sidewalks, fresh rain and cherry blossom.
Palate: Baked apple and raisin, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup and toasted waffles, with a side of salted pecans.
Finish: Medium, with roasted nuts and sweet oak.

Strategic Position

Set beside the London Edition that opened the series, New York is the lighter and sweeter reading of the format: 49.5% against 57.5%, mixed oak against first-fill Oloroso, and half the bottle count. The series continued with the Mexico Edition, the Hong Kong Edition and the Paris Edition.

Production Methodology

Polly Logan and Joan Roca built the New York Edition from time spent in the city with its artists, curators and designers, and from its street food. Logan set out to capture the sweetness of classic American candy with chocolate and peanuts, and started from the apple note already found in The Macallan. The selection settled on a combination of six casks of European and American oak, the first time the series had mixed the two. The whisky was bottled at 49.5% ABV with no age statement, in an edition of 1,000 bottles, and released in both 70cl and 75cl bottles.
