The premise of the Edition Series began here: choose a set of casks, disclose the recipe, and let the wood argue its own case. Dalgarno drew Edition No. 1 from eight cask styles — European and American oak in butts, hogsheads and puncheons, sherry-seasoned in the house style — which remains the widest recipe of the six releases. The whisky carries no age statement because age is not the claim; the claim is the specific combination of oak, printed on the pack, and the natural colour it produced. It was bottled at 48% ABV, the base step of a ladder the series climbed by a tenth of a point in each later year.
