The 2026 Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon is the 15th edition of the distillery’s annual full-proof release, bottled at 117.8 proof, 58.9% ABV. Master Distiller Owen Martin built it from Kentucky straight bourbon distilled between 2014 and 2019, carried forward through Angel’s Envy’s Solera-inspired system and then double matured in hand-selected Ruby Port barrels for up to three years. It carries no age statement. Approximately 20,640 bottles were released nationally at a suggested $249.99 for 750 mL, with a further 1,446 sold internationally.

How It Was Made

Cask Strength 2026

Angel's Envy borrows the logic of the solera systems used in sherry and rum without replicating them exactly, which is why the distillery calls the process Solera-inspired rather than solera. Each year roughly 120 barrels are blended together; about 100 of them are bottled and the rest is reserved, becoming the foundation of the following year's blend. Nothing resets, so every edition carries a trace of the one before it, and the 2026 contains material drawn from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 releases alongside newly added bourbon. The base for this edition is Kentucky straight bourbon distilled between 2014 and 2019 — a notable shift toward Angel's Envy's own distillate rather than sourced stock. After blending, the whiskey is double matured in hand-selected Ruby Port wine barrels for an extended period of up to three years, considerably longer than the finishing given to the standard port-finished bourbon, before going into the bottle at its natural strength.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

Nose: Cherry cordial and salted caramel lead.
Palate: Layered apple cider, red wine notes and creamy ganache.
Finish: Structured oak tannins with citrus preserves and jammy dark chocolate.

II

Strategic Position

Most annual bourbon releases reset each year from a fresh barrel selection. This one does not — a portion of every prior Cask Strength is folded into the next, so the 2026 carries traces of 2023, 2024 and 2025 inside it. That makes the series cumulative rather than sequential, and it means a vertical of Cask Strength years reads as one continuous line instead of a set of unrelated bottlings. It shelves with the finished-bourbon shelf at Midnight Whiskey, a step up in proof and finishing time from Angel's Envy's port-finished core bourbon.

Collector Note & Index

Collector Note

There is a naming problem around this release that is worth getting straight before you buy, because several retailers have it wrong. The 2026 Cask Strength arrived as a dual release: a bourbon and, for the first time from Angel's Envy, an age-stated rye at ten years. The age statement belongs to the rye. The bourbon has none — its base was distilled across a five-year window from 2014 to 2019, and the Solera system makes a single age statement structurally impossible, since older material from prior releases is always present. Listings describing a ten-year Angel's Envy Cask Strength bourbon are conflating the two halves of the same announcement. On its own terms the bourbon is the more interesting of the pair for a vertical, precisely because each year contains the ones before it; the outturn of roughly 20,640 bottles also makes it obtainable in a way the rye's 10,800 is not.

How to Taste It

Neat, and give the glass real time. Three years in Ruby Port barrels puts a great deal of wine-derived fruit on top, and at 117.8 proof that fruit arrives before the bourbon underneath it does; the cherry and ganache Angel's Envy describes sit forward while the oak tannins take several minutes to show. Water is optional here rather than necessary — this is high proof but not a hot whiskey, and diluting early trades the texture the port finish contributes for very little in return. If you are tasting it against an earlier Cask Strength year, pour both and come back to them, since the shared solera material makes the differences quieter than the release years suggest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What proof is Angel's Envy Cask Strength 2026?

The 2026 Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon is bottled at 117.8 proof, or 58.9% ABV. Angel's Envy bottles the Cask Strength release without proofing down, so that figure is the natural strength of the blend after finishing. The 10-Year Cask Strength Rye issued alongside it is a separate whiskey at 111.6 proof.

What is Angel's Envy's Solera-inspired process?

For each annual Cask Strength release Angel's Envy blends a set of barrels, bottles most of the blend, and holds the remainder back to form the foundation of the following year's blend. Because nothing is fully emptied, mature bourbon from earlier releases keeps influencing later ones and each edition carries a trace of the one before it. The 2026 release incorporates material from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 Cask Strength bottlings alongside newly added bourbon. Angel's Envy calls it Solera-inspired rather than solera because it borrows the principle of the fractional blending systems used in sherry and rum without replicating them exactly.

Is the 2026 Angel's Envy Cask Strength a 10-year bourbon?

No. The 2026 Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon carries no age statement; its base is Kentucky straight bourbon distilled between 2014 and 2019, and the Solera-inspired process means older material from prior releases is present as well. The ten-year age statement belongs to the Angel's Envy 10-Year Cask Strength Rye, the brand's first age-stated cask strength rye, which was released at the same time as part of the 2026 Cask Strength Dual Release. Retail listings describing a ten-year Angel's Envy Cask Strength bourbon are conflating the two.
