Upper floors first, lower ricks after: that is the route Jack Daniel's gave the barrels of its 10-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 3, announced on 5 February 2024 with Batch 2 of the 12-Year-Old. The 2024 batch reached the United States that February: 97 proof (48.5% ABV), 700 mL.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

The 2024 batch. Jack Daniel's announced it on 5 February 2024; February was also the month it reached American stores.

02

High, then low. According to Jack Daniel's, the barrels sat first in the upper floors of its barrelhouse and were then moved down to the lower ricks to lengthen maturation.

03

A 12-Year companion. Its release partner was Batch 2 of the 12-Year-Old at 107 proof; the two shared the mash, the charcoal mellowing and the barrelhouse route.

04

Classic mash. For this batch the release cites the classic Jack Daniel's grain bill: 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye.

05

US only, like Batches 1 and 2. Jack Daniel's lists the first three batches for the American market alone and Batch 4 as the first it offered internationally.

The Barrelhouse Route

Upper floors to lower ricks
Stage one

Upper floors

Batch 3's barrels began high in the barrelhouse, the first stage the 2024 release describes.

Stage two

Lower ricks

They were then relocated to the lower ricks, which the distillery says extends the maturation process.

The barrel

New American white oak

Toasted and charred before filling, according to the release.

Before the barrel

Charcoal mellowing

The new spirit is mellowed through charcoal before it goes into wood.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

The 2024 release calls Batch 3 oak-forward, with layers of fruit and cocoa. The notes for Batches 2 and 4 use the same frame but name dark fruit and bittersweet cocoa, so Batch 3's description stands apart from both.

II

Strategic Position

In the 10-Year-Old chain, Batch 3 follows the 2023 batch that launched with the 12-Year and precedes the 2025 batch, first sold beyond the United States. Its age-statement sibling for 2024 is the 12-Year batch announced the same day.

In the distiller's words

The Aged Series, master distiller Chris Fletcher said in 2024, lets the distillery make modern whiskeys that, at the same time, capture the essence of the liquid Mr. Jack created over 150 years ago.

Records & Assurance

Production Methodology

Batch 3 begins with the mash Jack Daniel's uses for its classic Tennessee whiskey, 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye, mellowed through charcoal before barreling. The 2024 release describes the aging: new, toasted and charred American white oak barrels placed first in the upper floors of the barrelhouse, then relocated to the lower ricks to extend maturation, before bottling at 97 proof.
