Russell's Reserve 13 Year Old is a Kentucky straight bourbon aged at least 13 years and bottled at barrel proof, without chill filtration, at 114.8 proof. Eddie Russell, the master distiller, introduced it in June 2021, the year he marked four decades at the Wild Turkey Distillery, and the 2022 and 2023 releases kept the same 114.8 before each batch began carrying its own proof in 2025.

2021, 2022 and 2023

Russell's Reserve introduced the 13 Year Old in June 2021 for the United States, followed it with a second release in 2022 and a third annual release in June 2023, each at 114.8 proof. In 2024 the brand released a 15 Year Old instead, and the 13 Year came back in 2025 as the 123.8-proof Spring 2025 bottling, the first with its production season on the label.

Russell's Reserve used one description for all three releases: dried dark fruit and charred confectionery on the palate, then honey, chocolate and nougat running to a strong, lasting finish. Its 2021 announcement also named plum, chocolate and toasted brown sugar.

Strategic Position

One proof across three releases sets the original 13 Year apart from what came after: the 2025 batch reached 123.8 and the Spring 2026 batch 121.2, each printed on its own label. Between the two eras stands the 15 Year Old released in 2024 instead of a 13, which Russell's Reserve framed as a follow-on to this bottle.

Russell's Reserve distills its bourbon from one house mash bill and ages it in new American oak barrels with a No. 4 char. For the 13 Year Old, Eddie Russell chose barrels aged at least 13 years and bottled them at the proof they reached in the barrel, without chill filtration — 114.8 every time from 2021 through 2023.
