Pride of Anderson County was created in 2022 by David Jennings — the Wild Turkey historian behind Rare Bird 101 — working with Pablo Moix and the team at Rare Character Whiskey. Jennings has described the brand as dedicated to the best the Wild Turkey Distillery has to offer, bottled straight from choice barrels, uncut and unfiltered, and has named the specific rickhouses that supplied early releases along with the Wild Turkey figures who earmarked those barrels for the project. The whiskey is matured in new charred oak and bottled at natural cask strength, one barrel at a time, with the strength and age written by hand on each bottle. The programme launched as a limited, lottery-only collection alongside a rye counterpart and has since become an ongoing single-barrel series reaching wider markets. Anderson County itself is the brand’s subject: the distillery stands above the Kentucky River at Tyrone, in a county central to Kentucky whiskey since before Prohibition.

Bottles of the same stated age can carry different strengths, which is what a single-barrel programme produces — the lower label on each bottle carries the figures that describe it.
