Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson C is the first release of the brand's annual Single Rickhouse Collection: bourbon from 72 barrels Eddie Russell drew from floors three and four of Camp Nelson C, a seven-story Wild Turkey rickhouse built in 1946 and decommissioned in 2021. Aged for over 10 years, it was bottled at 112.4 barrel proof without chill filtration and reached shelves in October 2022.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

One rickhouse. Every barrel came from Camp Nelson C, the building the release is named for, which was taken down before the bottling appeared.

02

The center cut. Eddie Russell chose barrels from floors three and four, the middle of the seven-story rickhouse.

03

112.4 barrel proof. The batch was bottled at the proof it came out of the barrels and was not chill filtered.

04

Over ten years. Russell's Reserve describes the whiskey as aged for more than 10 years.

05

Three Russells agreed. Eddie Russell, his father Jimmy and his son Bruce all tasted it before it became the first Single Rickhouse release.

Nº 02

Camp Nelson C

A 1946 rickhouse, now gone

Built in 1946 on a hilltop beside the Kentucky River, Camp Nelson C was a timber rickhouse clad in tin to regulate its temperature naturally, with room for air to circulate around the barrels. Wild Turkey decommissioned it in 2021 and had dismantled it by the time this bottling appeared, so the release keeps whiskey from a warehouse that no longer stands.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

Sweet vanilla, caramel and cream lead Russell's Reserve's tasting notes for Camp Nelson C, turning to fresh and dried fruit, brown sugar, oak and char; a thick, sweet palate of toffee, coconut and vanilla that moves on to apple, dried fruit, toasted pecan, chocolate and baking spice; and a long, silky finish that balances oak and spice against sweetness.

II

Strategic Position

Camp Nelson C opened a series in which each annual release comes from a single Wild Turkey rickhouse, past or present; the fourth, Camp Nelson E, drawn from one floor at 128 proof, came three years later from a shaded rickhouse near the river on the same property. Camp Nelson also supplied the barrels for a fifteen-year-old Russell's Reserve released in 2024.
