The Macallan Harmony Collection Green Meadow is the travel-retail half of Harmony III, bottled at 40.2% ABV from a combination of sherry-seasoned oak and bourbon casks. Built by Whisky Maker Steven Bremner from the same McCartney collaboration as the domestic Amber Meadow, it takes its reference from Scottish grasslands — and it leans far harder on the American oak than a Macallan usually does.

The Elemental Distinction

01

40.2% ABV, against 44.2% for the domestic Amber Meadow.

02

Travel exclusive. Airport boutiques and key airports from October 2023, at $185.

03

Sherry-seasoned oak and bourbon casks — the same construction as its domestic twin.

04

Macallan calls the colour Spring morning; Amber Meadow's is Summer evening.

05

Reviewers consistently read it as the more ex-bourbon-leaning of the pair.

06

700 ml, and presented in packaging made from discarded meadow cuttings.

Nº 02

Cask & Craft

Green Meadow

The Harmony Collection's premise is that the packaging comes from something at the end of its useful life, and Harmony III took its material from the ground the whisky is named for: discarded meadow cuttings, turned into the presentation box and the bottle labels, with each box carrying Mary McCartney's photography of The Macallan Estate. The liquid follows a parallel logic. Macallan's identity rests on sherry-seasoned European oak commissioned and seasoned to its own specification in Jerez — a process running to roughly six years before any spirit goes in — and Harmony III set bourbon casks alongside that programme for the first time in the series. At 40.2% the American oak contribution is more audible here than on the domestic release, which is why the two bottles taste less alike than their shared specification suggests.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

Colour: Spring morning — Macallan's own term, natural and drawn from the casks.
Nose: Fresh orange and lemon, wild primrose, petrichor, honeydew melon and bluebells.
Palate: Rich lemon, barley sugars, creamy vanilla, almonds and fresh oak, into a sweet, fragrant, creamy finish with a primrose-scented close.

II

Strategic Position

Macallan's house character is sherry-seasoned European oak, and the Harmony III pair is the point where the distillery let American oak lead. Both halves use sherry-seasoned oak with bourbon casks, but the lower strength here lets the bourbon-derived side through more plainly — reviewers tasting the two side by side describe this as the fresher, fruitier and more overtly American-oak-leaning of the two, while the domestic bottle reads richer and closer to the house style. That makes the cheaper, weaker, harder-to-find half the more unusual whisky of the pairing. It sits among the Harmony pairings we stock, opposite the 44.2% domestic Amber Meadow.

Collector Note & Index

Collector Note

The single number to check on this bottle is 40.2%. Descriptions circulating for Green Meadow — including AI-generated retail copy — give 44.2%, which is the domestic Amber Meadow's strength, not this one. The two releases came out together under one collaboration and the names are a colour apart, so the figures get swapped constantly. Two further points. This was sold only through airport boutiques and duty free, so bottles outside that channel came home in luggage rather than through retail distribution, and supply reflects which halls stocked it. And it is a 700 ml bottle, the European measure, which matters before comparing prices against a domestically distributed 750 ml whisky. The travel-exclusive oak release that followed it a year later held its strength level with its domestic twin instead.

How to Taste It

Neat, and do not reach for water. At 40.2% this is at the floor of the Harmony Collection alongside the two cacao and arabica travel editions, and there is no headroom — dilution takes the citrus and primrose away rather than opening anything up. Serve it cool rather than cold. The comparison worth making is against the domestic Amber Meadow: same collaboration, same cask types, same year, four percentage points apart, and the pair separates on far more than strength. Pour this one first. Going the other way makes it read thin when what it actually is, is lighter by design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ABV is Macallan Harmony Green Meadow?

40.2% ABV. Descriptions giving 44.2% are quoting the domestic Amber Meadow, which was released alongside it as the other half of Harmony III. The two are frequently confused because they share a collaboration, a cask construction and a release date, and differ by four percentage points and a colour in the name.

Where was Green Meadow sold?

Travel retail only. It was available in The Macallan Airport Boutiques and key airports around the world from October 2023 at a suggested retail price of $185, and was never released domestically. Its counterpart Amber Meadow was the domestic release, reaching premium retailers, bars and restaurants from October 2023 and the United States from early December that year.

How does Green Meadow differ from Amber Meadow?

By strength and by balance. Both were created by Whisky Maker Steven Bremner from a combination of sherry-seasoned oak and bourbon casks as part of the Stella and Mary McCartney collaboration. Amber Meadow is 44.2% and reads richer, with vanilla, coconut and ripe barley on the nose. Green Meadow is 40.2% and reads fresher and more citrus-driven, with wild primrose, petrichor and honeydew melon, leaning more clearly on the American oak component.
