What ABV is Macallan Harmony Guardian Oak?
44.2% ABV — the same as its domestic counterpart, Vibrant Oak. That is a departure from the earlier Harmony pairings, where the travel-retail half was always bottled lower: 40% against 44% on the cacao and arabica releases, and 40.2% against 44.2% on the meadow pairing. For Harmony IV the wood type is the variable rather than the strength.
What is the difference between Guardian Oak and Vibrant Oak?
The oak. Guardian Oak was matured in first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak casks with refill sherry casks, giving dried fruit, orange peel and sweet spice. Vibrant Oak used first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak with refill sherry casks, giving intense vanilla bean, sweet sherbet and lime zest, pear, toasted coconut and almond brittle. Both are 44.2% ABV. Guardian Oak was sold exclusively through global travel retail; Vibrant Oak through domestic retail.
When was Guardian Oak released?
It was announced in October 2024 as part of The Macallan's 200th anniversary programme, but reached global travel retail in January 2025 — available through The Macallan Global Boutiques, key airports and selected duty free locations including China Hainan Island. The domestic Vibrant Oak went on sale from 1 November 2024, so the two halves of the pairing arrived roughly three months apart.
