The Macallan Distil Your World: The London Edition is the first release in the Distil Your World series, a single malt created by Whisky Maker Steven Bremner with Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca of El Celler de Can Roca. It was matured in six first-fill European oak casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry and bottled at 57.5% ABV (115 proof) in an edition of 2,000 bottles, unveiled in the window of Harrods in Knightsbridge on 1 November 2020.

The first edition of the series: London opened Distil Your World, in which The Macallan and the Roca brothers translate a single city into a single malt.

A whisky maker and three chefs: Steven Bremner worked with Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca, whose El Celler de Can Roca in Girona has twice been named the best restaurant in the world.

Six first-fill Oloroso casks: European oak seasoned with Oloroso sherry, selected from thousands of casks for the flavours the team found in the city.

Outside the house style: Orange caramel, curry spice and Earl Grey tea, which the distillery singles out as uncommon in its single malts.

An edition of 2,000 bottles: Launched at a recommended retail price of £2,630 in the United Kingdom and $4,500 in the United States.

The Macallan & the Roca Brothers

One City, One Single Malt

The partnership predates the series: The Macallan Edition No. 2 was inspired by the three brothers, and Distil Your World Scotland produced a book and a documentary on the country's cuisine. For London, Bremner and the Rocas spent time with the city's craftspeople, creators and civic leaders, went behind the scenes of its landmark buildings, and drew their own sensory map of the city before choosing the casks. The exploration was filmed as the documentary Distil Your World London, released on Amazon Prime Video from 7 December 2020. Nose: Nutmeg, sweet Earl Grey tea, orange caramel, lemongrass, kaffir lime, soy sauce and polished oak.
Palate: Wood and curry spice, Earl Grey tea, treacle sweetness and aniseed; slightly salty, with a complex umami feel.
Finish: Long, viscous, complex and savoury.

Strategic Position

London is the edition the rest of the series follows: a city explored by the Roca brothers, a Macallan whisky maker translating it into casks, a companion documentary, and a single bottling that does not return. The New York Edition came second and moved to a mix of European and American oak, and the series went on to Mexico, Hong Kong and Paris.

A Map of London in the Case

The outer pack carries a true-scale map of the city set within the Macallan triangle. Inside, the bottle stands within a three-dimensional curved map of London in red, for the brick of the city's historic houses, and a photographic book of the exploration sits in a drawer built into the box.

Unveiled at Harrods

The edition was shown first in a window of the Harrods flagship in Knightsbridge on 1 November 2020, and was available worldwide from that month, including at Harrods, The Macallan Boutique at London Heathrow and The Macallan Estate Boutique.

Production Methodology

Steven Bremner and Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca built the London Edition from a flavour brief drawn from the city itself. After time with London's craftspeople, creators and leaders, and a sensory map of the city of their own making, they searched thousands of casks for orange caramel, curry spice and Earl Grey tea, and settled on a combination of six first-fill European oak casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry. The whisky was bottled at 57.5% ABV with no age statement, in an edition of 2,000 bottles, and presented in a case built around a true-scale map of London.
