13th Colony 15th Anniversary Cask Strength Bourbon is a single release of straight bourbon from 13th Colony Distilleries in Americus, Georgia: 25 barrels of the distillery's Southern Bourbon, chosen by Master Distiller Graham Arthur, aged eight years and nine months and bottled at cask strength, 139.2 proof (69.6% ABV), as Batch 555. It marked the distillery's fifteenth anniversary and went on sale in March 2024, in a run of 3,330 bottles.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

The 15th counts the distillery's years, not the whiskey's: 13th Colony was founded in 2009 and marked its fifteenth anniversary with this release in 2024. The bourbon itself is eight years and nine months old.

02

The label's batch panel prints the strength under the batch number: 139.2 proof, 69.6% ABV, at cask strength.

03

13th Colony issued it as a single release, so every bottle comes from the one batch, Batch 555.

04

Twenty-five barrels, picked by Master Distiller Graham Arthur from the distillery's Southern Bourbon; his signature sits on the label's Select panel.

05

Mash bill, as 13th Colony gives it for this release: 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley.

06

Six states and select online retailers received the release in March 2024; the run was 3,330 bottles.

Nº 02

Americus, Georgia

Fifteen years in South Georgia

13th Colony Distilleries was founded in Americus, Georgia, in 2009; its founders' first spirits were made to give away to family and friends at the holidays. The company distills whiskey and also has whiskey distilled to its own mash bill to meet demand, and every barrel it holds is aged in its Americus warehouse, with the doors opened to South Georgia's heat and to temperature swings of 20 degrees. For the fifteenth anniversary, Master Distiller Graham Arthur selected 25 barrels of the distillery's Southern Bourbon, which were bottled together at cask strength as one batch.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

13th Colony's notes & the pour
I

Sensory Profile

In 13th Colony's release notes, baked fruit and caramelized sugar lead the nose, with cherry liqueur, maple and sweet corn; the palate runs to honey, cinnamon hard candy and raisin jam, then spiced tea and popcorn butter; the finish is medium and warm, lightly herbal, with smoked fruit. The distillery's full tasting list for the release adds vanilla, pie crust, orange blossom, caramel, black pepper, fireplace smoke and poached fruit, and 13th Colony gives the colour as deep mahogany.

II

Strategic Position

The strength sets the terms at 139.2 proof (69.6% ABV): begin with a small neat measure and decide on water sip by sip. Batch 555, the bottle number, the proof and ABV, the 750 mL fill and the Graham Arthur Select panel are the label details that identify a bottle of this release.

Records & Assurance

Production Methodology

13th Colony drew the 15th Anniversary release from its own warehouse stock: 25 barrels of the distillery's Southern Bourbon, made from a mash of 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley and aged eight years and nine months in Americus. Master Distiller Graham Arthur selected them, and they were bottled together as Batch 555 at cask strength — 139.2 proof, 69.6% ABV — in 3,330 bottles of 750 mL, with no colouring or flavouring added.
