In 2025 Buffalo Trace released Batch 14 at three proofs instead of one, which means either more qualifying stock was ready than a single bottling could absorb, or the distillery decided to meet demand differently. It has not said which, and it publishes no outturn to indicate scale. What is observable is the effect: from 2025 the proof on the face no longer identifies a release on its own, because three bottlings from the same year sit within two-tenths of a point of each other. Batch 13 is the last release for which that was not a problem.

Check the laser code before anything else. Three releases carry 127.3 — 2021, this one and 2025 — so the proof on the face narrows a bottle to one of three and stops there. L24 is this release. The 2021 commands a premium it earned from the cancelled Stagg that year, and the 2025 is a sub-batch of a release the trade numbers inconsistently, so a 127.3 bottle described without a code could be any of three things at three different prices. Beyond authentication, the thing worth understanding about Batch 13 is positional: it is the last of thirteen consecutive annual releases, and that is a fact about the series rather than about the whiskey. Whether being the final entry in a format is worth paying for depends on whether Buffalo Trace ever returns to it.

How to Taste It

Do not taste this straight after the 2023. Going 131.1 then 127.3 in release order is the hard way round — nearly four proof points down means the second glass reads thin and hollow when it is neither, and palate fatigue at barrel strength is real and fast. Work upward instead: this first, then the spike. If you are running the full sequence, the ascending order costs you the chronology and buys you the ability to actually taste the last few pours, which is the better trade on a line where every release is above 127.
