Stagg and Taylor, 1878

The 25th Antique Collection

George T. Stagg bought the O.F.C. Distillery that became Buffalo Trace from Colonel E.H. Taylor in 1878, Buffalo Trace’s October 8, 2025 announcement recalled. The same announcement added a 100-proof E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond to the collection, the first whiskey added since Thomas H. Handy joined in 2006, for six whiskeys in the 25th release.

Deep oak with a touch of vanilla opens the 2025 notes; Buffalo Trace’s letter then gives a palate of “Bold, rich vanilla layered with dark tobacco and ripe cherry” and a finish that is “Long and earthy, lingers with tobacco, vanilla, and enduring oak.”

Strategic Position

The step up from the 2024 Stagg from fall 2008 and spring 2009 whiskey was 6.7 proof points. Beside it in the 2025 set, the 2025 Weller at 129 proof sat 13.8 points lower.
