When Buffalo Trace announced the 2024 collection on October 28, it traced George T. Stagg to 2002, the year the distillery first released it, answering a consumer’s request for an older whiskey bottled at barrel strength, and described the Antique Collection as five whiskeys released each fall.

Plump rye and distiller’s malted barley went in with corn from Kentucky (distillers grades #1 and #2), where the 2023 and 2025 sheets name North Dakota malted barley and Minnesota rye.

Stainless steel held the sour mash through fermentation after a 240°F cook, where the 2023 and 2025 sheets list black iron and carbon steel fermenters.

Sensory Profile

Deep aged wood, rich oak and dark cherry make up the nose on Buffalo Trace’s 2024 sheet; the palate is a “Deep, layered profile of bold spice, assertive oak, creamy caramel and a delicate touch of cinnamon,” and the finish is long and drying, with oak that lingers.

Strategic Position

In strength it falls between the five-warehouse Stagg of 2023 and Stagg’s return above 140 proof in 2025. Of the five whiskeys in the 2024 collection, the Weller bottled at 125.8 trailed it by 10.3 points and Eagle Rare 17, matured in rick warehouses, carried its 17-year age statement.
