Heaven Hill opened its Heritage Collection in March 2022 with this 17-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at its barrel proof of 118.2 (59.1% ABV) and blended from 17-, 19- and 20-year-old barrels of its traditional bourbon recipe (78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley) pulled from four rickhouse sites.

The series’ first spring. Heaven Hill launched the Heritage Collection with this release, promising one bottling each spring from some of its oldest aging stock.

Ages printed on the label. 28% of the whiskey is 20 years old, 44% is 19 and 28% is 17; the age statement follows the youngest.

A Stock Kept Apart

1.9 million barrels, six sites

When Max L. Shapira announced the first edition, Heaven Hill counted 1.9 million barrels across six rickhouse sites, and a small stock of special barrels had been kept aside for years. Its first public bottling from that stock was the Heaven Hill 27-year-old of 2018, distilled in 1989 and 1990 at the old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in Bardstown before the 1996 fire; a special 85th Anniversary bottling followed in 2020, and the Heritage Collection turned the stock into an annual spring release from 2022.

The front label states 17 years, barrel proof and 118.2 proof over 59.1% alc./vol.; the strip beneath it carries the release year, the rickhouse sites and the mash bill, and Heaven Hill’s notes on the edition say the label also gives the production dates and the percentage of each age.

Strategic Position

Four editions have followed it: the series turned to corn whiskey in 2023, came back to bourbon with the 18-year-old third edition of 2024, made a wheat whiskey in 2025 and reached the 22-year-old barrel-proof edition of 2026; of the five editions released through 2026 it is the only one blended across age groups, 17 to 20 years.

Production Methodology

Heaven Hill sampled and adjusted the reserved barrels until, by its own account, the mingling showed its traditional bourbon recipe at its best, and left out the casualty barrels, the ones that had gone empty or off-taste over the years. What remained went together in three age groups, 28% twenty-year-old, 44% nineteen-year-old and 28% seventeen-year-old, from rickhouses at Deatsville, Glencoe, Schenley and the Bardstown main campus, and was bottled at its barrel proof of 118.2.
