Stagg is drawn from Buffalo Trace's aged bourbon stocks and bottled the way it comes out of the wood: no water to bring the strength down, no chill filtration to strip the oils and esters that carry texture. Buffalo Trace does not publish the recipe behind Stagg, nor a per-batch age, and its current brand description places the whiskey at eight years in charred white oak. Because every lettered batch is its own selection, the label proof is the batch's own number and is printed on the bottle rather than fixed by the brand.
