Spring 1993 whiskey in 83 barrels from Buffalo Trace's Warehouses I and K became the fall 2008 George T. Stagg Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. With no water added and no filtration, it went into the bottle at 15 years and 6 months, measuring 70.9% ABV, or 141.8 proof.

Spring 1993 distillate. The 2008 bottling came 15 years and 6 months after the spring 1993 distillation.

Warehouse K arrives. Of the Stagg fact sheets from 2004 on, this is the first to name Warehouse K; the five before it list Q or I alone, and K is on every sheet from here through 2013.

Floors 1, 3 and 5. The barrels were taken from three floors across the two warehouses.

Just over half. Slightly more than half the original whiskey, 50.07%, had been lost to evaporation by the 2008 bottling.

Same age as 2007. Like the 2007 release it was 15 years and 6 months old, though its whiskey was distilled a year later.

Buffalo Trace's letters put the release before this one, fall 2007, at 144.8 proof, from spring 1992 whiskey on Warehouse I's first floor. The release after it, fall 2009, came in at 141.4 proof from winter 1992 whiskey, 16 years and 7 months old, in Warehouse K. The 2008 sits three proof points below the 2007 and four-tenths of a point above the 2009.

Of the Stagg tasting comments from 2004 on, the 2008 sheet's is the first to mention coffee: “Dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans and mature oak”.

Strategic Position

This release falls between the 2006 Stagg from a single floor of Warehouse I, bottled at 140.6 proof, and the 142-barrel Stagg of 2010, bottled at 143 from winter 1993 whiskey, in date and in strength. Fall 2008 also brought Weller's wheated bourbon of spring 1997, whose barrels likewise came from Warehouse I.
