The biggest loss. No Stagg sheet from 2012 to 2019 records more evaporation; the 2016’s 75.99% comes closest.

One or two gallons. Buffalo Trace’s 2015 announcement said some of the barrels were nearly empty, holding only 1 or 2 gallons.

A tenth above 2014. 138.2 proof against the 2014’s 138.1, from whiskey distilled two years later.

Same six floors. Floors 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, the numbers the 2014 sheet lists too.

Spring paperwork, fall release. Buffalo Trace’s 2015 letter is dated May 27; the September announcement put the collection on shelves from late September or early October.

Between the spring 1998 whiskey of the 2014 release and the spring 2001 whiskey of the 2016 sits this one, distilled in the spring of 2000. Bottled at 15 years and 1 month, it was 15 months younger than the 2014 and three months younger than the 2016.

Strategic Position

Before it came Stagg’s spring 1998 release of 2014, and after it the 144.1-proof hazmat Stagg of 2016, 5.9 proof points stronger. Fall 2015 also brought Weller’s spring 2003 bottling at 134.6 proof.
