Brown-Forman drew its 2024 King of Kentucky from 63 barrels with 2007 production dates of July 19 and November 15, all aged in Warehouses G and J at the Brown-Forman Distillery, and bottled every one separately at barrel strength under a 16-year age statement. This single-barrel Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey reached shelves in early October 2024, with most of its roughly 5,100 bottles kept in Kentucky.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

Sixteen years in the barrel. Brown-Forman released the 2024 King of Kentucky at sixteen years old and presented it at barrel strength, minimally filtered.

02

Two 2007 production dates. All 63 barrels trace to July 19 or November 15, 2007, the two production dates Brown-Forman named for the release.

03

Warehouses G and J. Every barrel aged in one of those two warehouses at the Brown-Forman Distillery, and the back label carries fields for barrel, rick, warehouse and location.

04

Mostly Kentucky. Most of the 2024 release stayed in Kentucky; ten other markets, from California to Metro New York, received smaller allocations.

05

The seventh edition. Brown-Forman's October 2024 announcement numbered it the seventh edition of King of Kentucky since the label's 2018 revival.

Nº 02

A Label from 1881

Brown-Forman's since 1936

The John G. Roach Distilling Co. established King of Kentucky in 1881 as a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Brown-Forman bought the trademark from Selected Kentucky Distillers in 1936, had turned the brand into a blended whiskey by 1940 and stopped producing it in 1968; in 2018 the company revived the label as a high-proof single-barrel bourbon. Its successor, the 17-year-old 2025 release, drew on the same 2007 distillation year.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

Brown-Forman wrote the 2024 tasting note from one representative barrel, Barrel No. 10: chocolate-dipped coconut, vanilla bean and caramel on the nose, laid over caramelized fruit, oak and a trace of malt, then dark chocolate, old oak, sweet coconut, malt and vanilla over wood spice on the palate. Chris Morris has noted that barrels filled in the same year still differ with their production date and warehouse, so any one barrel can depart from that note.

II

Strategic Position

For a King of Kentucky vertical, the 2024 release brings a 16-year age statement on 2007 distillate, Brown-Forman's tasting note written from representative Barrel No. 10, and an allocation that kept most bottles in Kentucky. The 17-year-old release that followed in 2025 drew on the same distillation year and the same two warehouses.
