What ABV is Macallan Harmony Smooth Arabica?
40% ABV. It is the travel-retail half of Harmony II and sits four percentage points below the domestic edition, which was bottled at 44%. Both were crafted by Whisky Maker Steven Bremner from sherry-seasoned European and American oak.
How does it differ from the domestic Arabica release?
By strength, market and reference point. This is a Travel Exclusive Edition at 40% ABV released in November 2022, built around gentle spice and soft Americano character. The domestic edition is 44% and was built around espresso. Both draw on the same Ethiopian Arabica inspiration and the same sherry-seasoned European and American oak, so the pairing represents two preparations of one idea rather than two grades of it.
What does sherry-seasoned mean on a Macallan label?
That the cask was made to Macallan's specification and filled with sherry purely to season the wood before being emptied and filled with spirit, rather than being a second-hand cask bought after a sherry producer had finished with it. The oak is commissioned, coopered and seasoned in Jerez before shipping to Speyside, a process measured in years before any whisky goes in.
