May 2018 brought William Heavenhill’s 6th Edition, so far the series’ only 16-year-old: a Kentucky straight bourbon of fewer than 60 barrels, dumped as separate small batches so that each kept the character of its warehouse, then cut to 106 proof (53.0% ABV).

Batched by warehouse. Rather than one dumping, the barrels were emptied in separate small batches, each preserving one warehouse’s aging effect, as the back label explains.

Fewer than 60 barrels. The back label puts the whole edition under 60 barrels, divided among those batches.

Cut to 106. The barrel proof was reduced to 106 for bottling; the front label reads 53.0% alc./vol.

The only 16-year statement. No other edition among the twelve released from 2008 to 2025 carries a 16-year age statement.

Where the Series Began

A 2008 birthday bottling

William Heavenhill began in 2008 as a single commemorative bottling for the 225th birthday of the farmer-distiller Heaven Hill is named after: 225 bottles of bourbon aged 225 months, bottled at 127.6 proof and sold only at the gift shop of the Bourbon Heritage Center in Bardstown. Later editions kept the name while age, proof and format varied across releases; the sixth, ten years on, split its barrels into separate warehouse batches.

The Label Record

The 6th Edition wears a black front label: Small Batch over Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, with 53.0% alc./vol., 16 years and 106 proof along its foot. The back label sets out how the edition was batched and names the batch in the bottle, which is the line to read, because the batches aged in different warehouses.

Strategic Position

Four years later the series returned to Small Batch at 15 years with the 109-proof 9th Edition, and in 2025 it reached nineteen years with the 19-year-old barrel-proof 12th Edition.
