Camp Nelson D, the first rickhouse Master Distiller Eddie Russell worked in on Wild Turkey's Camp Nelson property after joining the company in 1981, supplies the 2026 bottling of Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse. Announced on October 6, 2026, as the collection's fifth release, it is a Kentucky straight bourbon of 120.8 barrel proof (60.4% ABV), not chill filtered, batched from barrels on five floors of the building: the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

Five floors. No earlier Single Rickhouse release drew on so many floors: this one used five, against one or two for each of the four before it, starting with floors three and four for the 2022 Camp Nelson C release that started the series.

02

A floor the series usually skips. Eddie Russell says the collection does not typically draw from a rickhouse's first floor; here some ground-floor barrels brought an earthy note that, by his account, fed the bottle's rye-like spice.

03

High and exposed. Camp Nelson D occupies the property's west side and sits higher than any other rickhouse the series has used through 2026; facing west, with nothing to shelter it, it takes a constant flow of air.

04

Bottled at barrel proof. Russell's Reserve bottled the whiskey at its barrel proof of 120.8, or 60.4% ABV, and left chill filtration out.

05

One recipe, another building. The collection keeps the recipe the same and changes the rickhouse with each release; for 2026 that rickhouse is Camp Nelson D.

Nº 02

Camp Nelson D

Standing since 1946

Camp Nelson D went up in 1946, and five historic rickhouses, this one among them, remain on the Camp Nelson grounds. Eddie Russell knows the building from the start of his career: it was the first rickhouse he worked in on the property, as a union employee, and he went back to it for the 2026 release. Russell's team sampled barrels around the building with him and settled on five of its floors.

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Distiller notes & position
I

Sensory Profile

Russell's Reserve's tasting note for Camp Nelson D starts with baked fruit and apple over baking spice and vanilla, moves to clove, cinnamon, rye bread and stone fruit on the palate, and ends at medium length on pepper, rye spice, spicy oak and cinnamon. Eddie Russell says the team went looking for familiar sweeter notes and found the rye spice standing out first.

II

Strategic Position

On proof it sits between its two predecessors, 120.2 for Camp Nelson B in 2024 and 128 for the fifth-floor Camp Nelson E bottling of 2025, so what sets Camp Nelson D apart is its selection: five floors, where each earlier release used one or two. Its published tasting note leans on rye, with rye bread on the palate and rye spice in the finish, though the recipe is the collection's constant one.

Production Methodology

Russell's Reserve keeps one recipe across the Single Rickhouse Collection, its single bourbon mash bill of corn, rye and malted barley, and turns to a different rickhouse for each release. The 2026 barrels came from floors one, three, four, five and six of Camp Nelson D, ground-floor casks included for the earthy note they brought, after Eddie Russell's team had tasted their way through the building. No chill filtration was used, and the batch kept its barrel proof of 120.8 in the bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What proof is the 2026 Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse?

The 2026 Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse release, Camp Nelson D, is 120.8 barrel proof, or 60.4% ABV. It was not chill filtered, and its barrels came off floors one, three, four, five and six of Camp Nelson D, a 1946 Wild Turkey rickhouse.

Is Russell's Reserve Camp Nelson D a single barrel bourbon?

No. Russell's Reserve combined barrels from five floors of one rickhouse, Camp Nelson D (the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth), into one batch for Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson D. The single in Single Rickhouse refers to the building, not to a barrel.

How is Camp Nelson D different from Camp Nelson E?

The 2025 Single Rickhouse release from Russell's Reserve, Camp Nelson E, drew only on the fifth floor of a shaded rickhouse near the Kentucky River and came in at 128 proof. Camp Nelson D, the 2026 release, draws on five floors of a rickhouse on the property's exposed west side and is bottled at 120.8 proof. Neither was chill filtered, and each went into the bottle at its barrel proof.
